About

Owner/Chef Phouvanh (Pooh) emigrated from Thailand to Minnesota more than 30 years ago.
In 1999, Pooh recognized the need for quality, authentic Thai cuisine and opened her first restaurant.
Pad Thai on Grand, in St. Paul near Macalester College. Pad Thai is still serving customers for
more than 17 years now!

Pooh decided to expand authentic Thai cuisine to Stillwater and opened Thai Basil in February,
2015. She brought her most popular recipes which are featured on our menu. Thai Basil features
exclusive Thai Cuisine that customers throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas have been
searching for years.

What separates Thai Basil from other Thai restaurants is the freshness of the ingredients which are
prepared daily in every dish. We use only the freshest meats, vegetables and fruit. Many of the
vegetables and peppers are grown right here in our garden at the restaurant. Every dish is
prepared to the spice level you desire. Customers rave how our spices are “Thai Hot” and not
“Minnesota Hot”. If your dish needs a little boost, then ask your server for our tray of exotic spice
flavors to enhance your taste buds.
Thai Basil sauces are prepared from scratch from our own exclusive recipes. The seafood entrees
are outstanding. Make sure you check the ‘Specials Board’ for entrees not on the menu and
available for a limited time.

Every day someone visits Thai Basil for the first time. They’ve been recommended to us by their
friends or family or co-worker that enjoyed a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Guests come to
enjoy the food and then they are pleasantly surprised by the warm atmosphere, hand painted
décor, full bar and friendly, professional staff. We hear often, “It’s about time the Stillwater area
has a great Thai restaurant”!

Thank you for dining with us, we look forward to serving you and seeing you again soon!

Thai Basil Food Philosophy

All of the ingredients we use here at Thai Basil are  local. We stock our restaurant kitchen in much the same way that we stock our home kitchen, with daily deliveries of fresh ingredients that we select ourselves, at market each morning.

In addition to our menu items, we also offer daily specials inspired by seasonal ingredients, the weather and how we are feeling. We are always on the lookout for new sources of ideas and inspiration, so when we travel the world (which we admit, we do often) we bring back our favorite flavors and culinary discoveries.
